Past
Jathel was born upon a small desert planet named Aotis. His people were peaceful ones whom were unaware of the war raging within the heavens above their little planet. He started his life as one of nine children. There were never a dull moment, and he and his siblings proved to be a handful for their parents. He was ten years old when the war raging within the confines of space was brought to their attention. This war was being fought between a tyrant of man whom wished for the entire galaxy that Aotis found itself nestled within to be underneath his dominion, and those whom wished to stop him. Their efforts, however, only delayed him. It did not keep him from traveling across the galaxy and subjugating the natives of every planet he came upon into his empire. The process was simple, he sends downs a small task force, whom he tells to kill anyone whom stands in their way. This usually get the subjects of these worlds he is invading to surrender quickly. Once they have accepted their fate they are enslaved. Half are turned into personal slaves for his and his soldiers twisted desires while the other half became his shoulders himself.
Given Jathel's people's peaceful nature he expected to have Aotis within the bag without breaking a sweat, but Jathel's people proved that appearance weren't everything. Through peaceful, his people were proud and independent. They would not roll over without a fight, but they would soon discover that their best effort was not good enough against their invaders. Many of their people were lost within the battles leading up to their surrender. The numbers of souls whom were killed within these battles were so staggering that the Emperor--as invaders' leader dubbed himself--decided to allow half the population to remain upon Aotis for breeding purposes. He told them that he would be back to collect them once their population was significant enough, but since he didn't want to leave this planet empty handed he decided to take half their population onto his ships to be divided into the two categories that he did with the population of every planet.
Jathel and a younger sister were one of those whom were brought upon the ship. He was waiting to be assigned when he noticed that his sister had been declared to be a personal slaves. Immediately, soldiers begun to paw at her in ways that no child should be touched. He filled with such horror and disgust over what was being done to his sister decided to leap into the front of the line to put an end to it. In spite, putting up a good fight, his effort was in vain. The soldiers eventually restrained him, and were preparing to punish him for his actions when the Emperor told them to stay their hands. He had been watching the entire event unfold and he had been impressed by Jathel's skills despite his lack of training. The Emperor decided that he would be turned into one of his soldiers, but he would not go without punishment.
His punishment would be to watch his entire family--including the sister whose honor he fought so desperately to save--be slaughter right before him. During their execution he was filled with an overwhelming sense of guilt that would remain for years to come. Everyone knew whom was to blame for his family's death, and he believes they died hating him. He throw himself into his training. He became the perfect soldier. He drowned himself inside the battles and when he wasn't fighting inside the bottle or anything he could find to make him forget his guilt. He gained quite the reputation--one that gained the Emperor's attention. The Emperor saw himself within Jathel. More than that he saw someone worthy of carrying on his legacy when he was gone. It was for this reason that the Emperor named Jathel his heir. Jathel took to training that accompanied this new title as he did everything else, but he would not receive his inheritance.
The entire course of his life changed during a space battle. His fighter jet started to act crazy. It would not respond to his command than it started to spin out of control. The next thing he knew he had enter hyperspace. The were only one thing to do---ride it out and hope he didn't end up in the middle of a star. He wasn't within hyperspace for very long---a minute at most--but he found himself within a region of space he had never been to before. Before, he could get his barrings and figure out a way back to where he had just came from Jathel's ship lost power, and came crashing down upon a planet whose orbit his ship had decided to enter. He survived the impact, but it was clear his ship had not fair so well. It was within dire need of repair. He crawled his way out of the rubble of his crashed ship, and in order to explore the planet he had crashed upon and see if they have any of the material he would need to fix his ship.
However, he didn't make it very far. He underestimated how damaged he was from the crash and passed out from his injuries. He didn't lay there for long before he was found by a prince of Virannova---one of the nations of this world that Jathel had found himself upon. This prince, whose name Jathel ended up learning was Ceric, took Jathel back to his castle to heal his wounds. It was not just the injuries from the crash that Ceric healed, but the ones he had been carrying with him since the day his family's death. During this time, they spoke of many things and it was here that Jathel learned the history of the world. He learned of the never-ending war between Virannova and another nation called Casyrias. This war threaten to destroy the planet, and Ceric people decided to build a wall in order to save the planet. The wall, however, had to be constructed quickly as there were those whom would try to stop it and unfortunately that meant citizens from each nation got trapped on both sides.
It would be centuries before Virannova learned what happened to her children. The people of Casyrias were not very kind to them. They heard stories of the stories of the horrible things that had been done to their lost children, but in truth it was no worse than what Ceric's people had done to the children of Casyrias. Both side wanted peace. They wished to do what their ancestors had failed to do. They knew it would be a very long process, and one Ceric doubts will be resolved anytime soon. Yet, the idea that peace might be possible is enough for both nations. Jathel found himself curious about the other side of the wall, and with his friend's blessing he embarks upon a journey to see the other side. He ended up meeting a female witch--this is what the Casyrian end up calling the Virannovan whom ended up trapped on their side of the wall---and falling in love. He decided to settle down with her for a bit, and planned on spending the rest of his life with her then he met him--another witch.
What Jathel felt for the female witch paled in comparison to what he felt for the male. He felt a connection to this male that would be best described as soulmates. Perhaps, the gods had caused him to crash upon Iolara for the sole purpose of finding the one soul whom could complete him. He knew deciding to be with another would break the female's heart, and so he decided to return to Virannova with his lover. It wasn't just the urge to save forcing his ex-lover see him with his new one that had Jathel returning to Virannova. Truth be told, he missed Ceric and the others whom he had befriend during his time within the nation. Upon his return, Jathel discovered that his friend had been crowned king, married his childhood sweetheart and had a son named Lanyon. The two embraced Jathel and his lover as family, and they return to a rhythm that made it appear as if Jathel never left and his lover had always been there.
Jathel did not know and still don't know that he had left the female witch with child as well as her broken heart. The idea that she might get pregnant never cross his mind. He had thought himself infertile,or at the very least incapable of reproducing with those not of his people. His ex-lover in her desire to provide for their child ended up throwing fuel upon the fire of hatred between Virannova and Casyrias and causing them to forgo any attempts for peace in favor of out right war. She had gotten involved with a terrorist organization whom sent her to kill prince Lanyon. It was a task she ultimately failed at, but it was enough to cause the people of Virannova--whose adoration for the prince had no end--to demand retribution. Ceric answered his people's demands by declaring war upon Casyrias. Truth be told, it was not just pressure from his people that he declared war. He had warned the Casyrian officials that he allowed to escort his son to their capital that there would be war.

Present
Eleven years have passed since the war have started, and many lives have been lost---including Ceric's. Jathel tried to save his friend. He had taken to acting as Ceric's shield--protector upon the field of battle. He had not wished for Lanyon to lose his father and shoulder the responsibility of a country at war. Yet, his effort failed, his friend was killed, but Jathel did not leave the battle unblemished. He lost an eye to the attacker's spear. The man likely thought Jathel was dead when he removed the spear from him, and he very well might have been with how useless he been after the fact. He found himself filled with his old guilt, and it increased when he learned that the Queen died a few days later from a broken heart. Yet, instead of allowing the guilt to consume him, Jathel made a vow to do better. He didn't allow his eye to heal as he could, but instead kept it scarred as both a reminder of his promise and reminder of his failure.
He devoted himself to Lanyon, whom have become something like a son over the years. Through, he will be lying if he claims to believe that eradicating an entire people is the best course of action. It was true what was done to Lanyon was terrible, but it was not an entire people's fault. He just don't think it is his place to say anything, or perhaps more importantly that Lanyon is ready to hear those words. It might be his own fears and doubts playing a role here. It might be his time spent among The Empire still affecting him or the fact he might have tried to mention it to Ceric--whom rejected Jathel's claim--on a number of occasions. The only thing he can do is protect Lanyon better than he had Ceric and hope that one day he will came to see the same truth that Jathel did.
